Helping homeless and low-income families and children

Our
Story

The San Diego Coalition for the Homeless has been a steadfast part of our community since 1979, providing hope, support, and essential services to homeless and low-income families and children. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, our mission is to uplift those in need and offer a helping hand to those struggling with poverty. We are dedicated to bringing positive change to the lives of our neighbors, and we remain an active part of the community, always seeking ways to make a difference.

One of the hallmark events that sets us apart from other social service agencies is our annual Christmas-time celebration. This year, we are excited to prepare for the 45th Annual Holiday Magic for Kids event on December 21, 2024. This event has become a beloved tradition, bringing holiday cheer to over 500 low-income and homeless families. Children from newborns to 12 years old receive wrapped toys, stocking stuffers, and unforgettable memories. At our event, the air is filled with music, laughter, and a sense of community, with local mascots, musicians, and volunteers bringing the spirit of the season to life.

We are always looking for more ways to engage with our community and are in need of volunteers to help prepare for the event, including children's book drives and food collections for the families we serve. Volunteers are needed both the evening before and the morning of the event. If you'd like to get involved, please reach out to us by email or phone to learn more about how you can help. Donations are always welcome, and we would be happy to provide more details on how you can contribute.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to talking with you soon and having you be part of our mission to spread hope and joy to those who need it most.

Our
Mission

Empowering homeless and at-risk individuals by providing food, clothing, shelter and professional services. Improving lives by replacing despair with hope, self-respect and dignity.

Providing Meals with Restaurant Gift Cards

At the San Diego Coalition for the Homeless, we understand that access to food is one of the most basic human needs. For individuals experiencing homelessness, finding and preparing food can be incredibly challenging, especially without a kitchen or storage space. To provide immediate relief, we distribute restaurant gift cards, allowing people to enjoy a meal when and where they need it most.

In past years, we’ve distributed hundreds of Jack in the Box gift cards, helping individuals meet their nutritional needs while also offering them a sense of dignity. This initiative is one of the many ways we aim to make life a little easier for those experiencing homelessness in our community.

Take a look at some of the moments from our previous gift card distributions in the images below, where we were able to hand out over 100 Jack in the Box gift cards to those in need.

Together, we can bring hope, joy, and a brighter future to those in need.
